10/5/2004
The New Jersey Devils announced that left wing Dean McAmmond has been signed to an AHL contract. As per organizational policy, no further terms were disclosed.
McAmmond will be entering his 12th professional season. He posted 17 goals and 13 assists for 30 points and 18 penalty minutes in 64 games in his second stint with Calgary during the 2003-04 campaign.
jerseydevil 10-05-2004, 12:32 PM Just saw that too...Looks like another player who wants to earn some money during the lockout.
Jason MacIsaac 10-05-2004, 01:10 PM This is pretty good.....this will give some of our younger wingers like Khomutov, Voros, Pihlman and Suglobov a dominante center in the league.
GentlemanOfLeisure 10-05-2004, 01:18 PM I think this is going to be the tip of the iceberg, pretty soon you'll be seing Paul Kariya in an AHL uniform!
Devilsfanatic 10-05-2004, 01:38 PM Holy ****! Unbelievable, when Dean played with Iggy and Connie up in Calgary he was amazing. He'll be an asset the Rats, but he'll really do well in Jersey (that is if the lockout ends, and we purchase his contract)........ I can't believe this.
Defence first 10-05-2004, 01:46 PM The question is that is his back ok. he was suppost to be a part of Calgary's playof run but he was hurt. If my memory is correct he has had a back back for a long while. ON the positive side of signing him. He brings alot of experience and has some speed to burn with some offensive skill.
Brodeur 10-05-2004, 02:06 PM Conroy signed with the Kings in the offseason.......not sure we'd want to inherit that contract even if he were available.
Hellsempire 10-05-2004, 04:26 PM Good move by the Devils to sign Dean McAmmond to the Rats of the AHL...
Classic Devil 10-05-2004, 05:21 PM This came out of nowhere.
Jason MacIsaac 10-05-2004, 09:06 PM Here is what I am thinking the lines may be for Albany.
Pihlman - Pairse - Suglobov
Khomutov - Foster- McAmmond
Pikkarainen - Rheaume - Voros
Murphy, Tenute
Extras: Janssen, Skrlac
Hale - Schultz
DeMarchi - Allen
Redlihs - Kadeikin
Extras: Kesa, Cole
Ahonen
Clemmensen
DudeCar 10-05-2004, 09:54 PM Jason, you forgot Paul Martin in your D pairings :teach: .

Martin can't go to Albany without going through waivers. :teach:

Why not?
DudeCar 10-06-2004, 11:29 AM Apparently, Lou has plans to funnel him to the AHL...and if Lou wants it, it will happen. Somehow, someway, it will happen.

Can he sign an AHL contract?
Jason MacIsaac 10-06-2004, 11:49 AM Can he sign an AHL contract?
No....he is still under his NHL contract....so I thought

So are lots of people playing abroad... There must be some rule against it though. Maybe AHL policy.

That is players who signed with European teams. There is a big difference.
VernonDevilsFan 10-06-2004, 06:03 PM He played in 70 NHL games last season, whereas David Hale only suited up for 65.
So how come Joni Pitkanen can play in the AHL when he played in 71 games?

Euro exception? :dunno:

i believe it's just about age. pitkanen's two years younger than martin, and thus he's exempt from waivers for longer.
at least that's how i recall it. tmg (or someone else) might have the official CBA explanation, though.
VernonDevilsFan 10-06-2004, 06:36 PM Ok, thanks ratsgirl :)

Hey, I think this is the first time I've ever been referenced on this board system. :)
The age/games played waiver rules can be found here: http://letsgopens.com/nhl_cba.php?id=13
It's all about the age. Bouwmeester's another guy who can go back to the AHL depite having played more games than Martin, due to being younger.
