Who was it???: Howe or Richard
Who was the best #9 of ALL TIME????the_hockey_knowitall 10-02-2004, 09:55 PM Who was it???: Howe or Richard Subway Schenn 10-02-2004, 09:56 PM Gordie HBLee82 10-02-2004, 10:28 PM Howe. Bruins4Ever 10-02-2004, 10:30 PM Richard. They didn't call him the "Rocket" for nothing. Lard_Lad 10-02-2004, 10:42 PM For the overall career, it has to be Howe. But for who was better at their peak, I might have to go with Richard. He beat out Howe for the first-team all-star RW spot a couple of times in the 50's, when he was in his mid-30's and past his prime and Gordie was in his late 20's, when you'd expect him to be at the top of his game. Burnaby_Joe* 10-02-2004, 11:06 PM Howe MHJS 10-02-2004, 11:09 PM Richard. They didn't call him the "Rocket" for nothing. Howe, they didn't call him "Mr. Hockey" for nothing. Kane 10-02-2004, 11:09 PM Howe. Hemskyfanboy83 10-02-2004, 11:47 PM the rocket his numbers for the amount of games he played were just sick #66 10-02-2004, 11:49 PM Prime for prime, Rocket. Bruins4Ever 10-02-2004, 11:58 PM Howe, they didn't call him "Mr. Hockey" for nothing. I knew someone was going to say that. I know Mr. Hockey was a great player, but Richard was more complete. He wasn't a brutal hitter like Howe, but he was speedy, nimble, and had a scoring touch like no one else. Very few people could ever catch him, and when he got in low to the net, I'd say he was the best natural goal scorer ever. Howe was more physical, but still put up incredible numbers, so it's all preference. Everyone can hit, but few could skate as fast, and dominate the game as well as Richard, and that, I think, makes him a better hockey player. Higgy4 10-03-2004, 01:17 AM Lets just end the thread and call it a dead heat. We are talking about 2 of the best players to ever to lace em up. Not trying to pick apart your post or be a jerkass but you say Howe could hit and score but Richard was a more a complete player. I would say just by your descriptions of each player Howe was a more complete player because he could hit and fight and score. That's just my opinion. Zetterberg4Captain* 10-03-2004, 01:24 AM This is not a hard decision. Howe is by far the best #9 to play the game! Preds 10-03-2004, 01:26 AM Richard of course. Russian_fanatic 10-03-2004, 01:43 AM Why make such a thread? Both where great, no one needs to justify who was better. Richard is the greatest goal scorer IMO, but follows him is Mike Bossy. Howe us arguably the best power forward EVER. GB 10-03-2004, 09:22 AM For the overall career, it has to be Howe. But for who was better at their peak, I might have to go with Richard. Howe was probably the more complete player, Richard the more fiery, and the bigger threat to score a goal. And to go off the deep end and use his stick in a different way than the hockey gods intended! Let's just call it a tie, because they are 2 of the top 4 to ever play the game (along with Orr & Gretzky). Darz 10-04-2004, 04:57 PM Rico Fata!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! J/K. I think I agree with the poster(s) who stated overall Howe has to be considered the better career wise, but at their respective peaks, Richard might have been better. hunter1909* 10-04-2004, 09:37 PM Da Rocket mymkovski 10-04-2004, 10:15 PM Why don't we just put both of the 9's together and pop out a 99 mr gib 10-04-2004, 10:20 PM Why make such a thread? Howe was impressive because of his great fitness but The Rocket had more talent. pei fan 10-06-2004, 08:58 AM I find these threads kind of funny. Are you trying to rewrite history.Everyone knows it's Howe. mattihp 10-06-2004, 11:05 AM Mr. Hockey. Both should be higher than #9 though... Big Phil 10-06-2004, 03:14 PM Howe. Richard never won a scoring title. Only once won the Hary Trophy. Howe at one time led the league in scoring for 4 straight years yet Ricahrd was better in his prime? Hmmm. Both were great and both are top 5 of all time. But I'll go with Mr. Hockey. rt 10-06-2004, 03:28 PM Howe. Masao 10-06-2004, 09:25 PM Call me insane, but I think technically Bobby Hull was better than both Richard and Howe David Puddy 10-07-2004, 02:41 PM Gordie Howe won six of twelve Hart Memorial Trophies from 1951-52 through 1962-63 and five out of seven Art Ross Trophies from 1950-51 through 1956-57, plus a sixth Art Ross after the 1962-63 season. Howe was also selected to the First All-Star Team 12 times and the Second All-Star Team 9 times during his career. Evil Sather 10-07-2004, 03:37 PM Adam Graves? bahaha. Superfluous U 10-07-2004, 04:00 PM Mr. Hockey. Both should be higher than #9 though... Its the best guy to wear #9 on his jersey, not the 9th best player. RangsDave 10-07-2004, 04:01 PM Pavel Bure- playig his 30 games for the rangers as #9 clefty 10-10-2004, 01:56 AM I never saw either one of them play let alone both of them. | ||
