Injury?; and Stastny was an early European before a draft procedure was set up for them). It allows for selections by season or team. From the Internet Hockey Database, 1963. All non-sponsored players 17 and older are eligible 1965. The eligibility age is raised to 18 years old. Bobby Orr was sponsored. Had he not been sponsored, he would not have been eligible for the NHL Draft until 1966. Boston did have the first overall pick in 1966, and they chose Barry Gibbs.
