Perry and Getzlaf?

How good is Perry and Getzlaf going to be? In the team review article is says that Perry and Getzlaf are both NHL ready now. I was surprised as I thought Perry wouldn't be ready until 2005-06 or even 06-07. So has he really increased his strength and skating abilities. After watching him the past 3 years in London and again this year, he is one of the most offensively talented prospects around, if he increases his strength and speed he should be a sure fire 2nd liner and maybe top line material. Whats your thoughts everyone??

I was also surprised to see him listed as NHL ready. IMO he wouldn't have had much of a chance to make Anaheim this year as there is no need to rush him when we already have young guys like lupul, chistov and most likely getzlaf already in the line up. He still needs to get stronger and fill out his frame to be effective at the NHL level. After this season I think he will get atleast one full year at the AHL level before being brought up or atleast that is how I would manage him.

Getzlaf is completly NHL ready. Perry is one year away in my opinion.

Neither of them are ready for the NHL but Getzlaf is a lot closer than Perry

what's Getzlaf missing?

He is more physically ready to go than Chistov and Lupul were during their rookie years.

work ethic imo is what getzlaf is missing. he has some, but needs to realize he isn't gretzky..

don't get me wrong, cockiness is good, but working cockiness is even better

How about experience. Physicality is about 20% of what is needed. The kid clearly wasn't the best player at the rookie tourney and you want to throw him in with a bunch of NHLers? Where does he fit? 3rd line? 4th?

Why not let him prove he can play at the AHL level before we assume he is NHL ready.

And for the record I don't think Chistov or Lupul were NHL ready the two previous years they were rookies. Lupul at least clearly dominated at the AHL level in the games he played before he was brought back up. He showed(granted in limited time) that the AHL was clearly not much of a challenge for him. When Getzlaf does that I will say he is more NHL ready until then he is not ready IMO.

Agreed I'd love for Getzlaf to get in a full year in the AHL, but unfortunately thats not possible. I don't think there is a lot left for him to gain by playing in the WHL.

i would love to see Getzlaf play in the NHL now... Perry i think still needs more time to improve...
wasn't getzlaf already ready last year to make the team??
too bad we won't have a season to see if he would have made the cut this year..

I think I remember reading that last season the only reason Getz was sent back to the Hitmen was that they needed to create a roster spot for Federov, who didn't play at all for the Ducks until the opening night.

Having watched the Hitmen for the last two seasons, and now a third, it makes me wish that either the Flames or the Caps had drafted this guy. The Ducks will be a better team with him there.

Getzlaf is NHL ready imo, he has all the tools to become a good two way threat.
