trahans99 09-22-2004, 08:56 PM Does anyone know where Scott Kelman is playing this year? Last year he was with Augusta Lynx (florida affiliate in ECHL) and I think I read Florida changed ECHL affiliates so will Kelman be playing with the new affiliate in ECHL or San Antonio in AHL? He avg ppg in ECHL, is he good enough to make jump to AHL this year and maybe NHL one day (being a former first rounder and all).
Thanks

he was invited to san antonio's training camp this year. with the influx of nhl guys from florida's squad set to play their in '04-'05, scott is likely headed to the texas wildcatters (panthers new echl affiliate). 6 years in juniors doesn't seem too good to me. the positive is he has improved each year as a pro, but isn't even solid ahl material at age 23. i'd say the nhl is a very long shot for scott.
trahans99 10-09-2004, 02:48 PM Thanks for the reply, any other info on Kelman. With the lockout he'll be sure to be in the ECHL again, but probably one of the best players in the league... I'd like to see him in the AHL this year to see if he's improved on last years season ....
I agree, the NHL is probably out of his reach, but if he improves each year he could be a role player in NHL in 3-5 years ... u neve rknow
Icebuck 10-11-2004, 10:33 PM Scott Kelman was assigned today to Laredo Bucks of the CHL, the Bucks were the 2003-2004 Presidents Cup Champions and an affiliate of the San Antonio Rampage / Florida Panthers.
trahans99 10-12-2004, 04:00 PM Is the CHL below or equal to the ECHL or are they the same thing?
I thought Florida/SA ECHL affiliate was Texas?
How do you predict Kelman will do this year in the CHL?
Icebuck 10-12-2004, 06:36 PM I believe he will do really good, atleast better than he did last year in Augusta.
He will probably be playing on the 2nd or 3rd lines since Jeff Bes is our big gunner and definitly our first line centerman.
Laredo will develop his skills well, he should be in the AHL as a full time player next year if he gets it done in Laredo. He definitly has the skills for it, more info at www.laredobucks.com

Is the CHL the same as the ECHL? If not which league is better or are they equal in quality?
Thanks for the link, good read.
Holly Gunning 10-12-2004, 10:20 PM The ECHL is more developmental than either the CHL or UHL, so you get a lot more NHL and AHL contracted guys, and overall a much younger roster. A higher percentage make it to the NHL.
"Quality" is a pretty broad term with lots of definitions, so I'll stay away from that specifically.
Yes, Florida's affiliate is Texas. This assignment is unusual, but not exactly unheard of.
Icebuck 10-13-2004, 04:19 AM I heard it was his choice that he wanted to go to Laredo Bucks (CHL) instead of the Wildcatters (ECHL)

Might be a smart move, Laredo won the league championship last year right? Will Scott be one of there top players? I know Bes is #1 on there team, would you put Scott at #2 now?
And where do you think he will rank in the CHL league? I know nothing about the league, will he be in the top 10, 20 ???
Icebuck 10-13-2004, 07:35 PM It really depends on him, and how he plays.
However, we do have alot of good players returning from last seasons winning team. Including Brent Cullaton(Allstar/Fastest Skater), and David Guerrera (Rookie of the Year, 03-04). As well as a bunch of young kids coming in to fill up some spots.
Should be a good year. Since I havn't seen Kelman play I can't really place him, but he should be top 5.
Icebuck 10-13-2004, 07:37 PM By the way Laredo had about 5 players, or more in the top 25 players in the CHL.
Icebuck 10-14-2004, 09:44 PM I went to practice today.. It seems they have thrown in Kelman in on the first line, playing winger. Lets see how he does.
trahans99 10-15-2004, 10:06 AM thanks for the info can u keep me updated on him

How is Kelman doing so far w/ Laredo?
mazmin 11-04-2004, 03:03 AM I think for Scott it's all about determination. If he sets his goal and slowly develops towards it he could be a useful Nhl player one day.
On the other hand, whatever happened to Jason Bonsignore? You know, talent only takes you so far. You gotta find your niche and perfect it. Some guys have to realize the y wont be top line scorers in "the show" and put their size and skating ability to good use. Some guys just can't adapt. Hopefully Scott's on his way.
Crossbar 11-14-2004, 02:29 AM Scott had 2 goals (including the game winner) for Laredo against the Amarillo Gorillas tonight.

I saw Kelman three times last year with Augusta.
P.U.
Too bad- I had been hoping for big things from him back in '99. Hopefully, he has a better year.
