These two duck prospects are definitly getting a lot of attension. I am hoping the Hitman win the WHL so I can see Getz play live at the memorial cup. Moncton or Rimouski to win the Q so if I can't see crosby live atleast there is Saunders!

Perry took the puck at about center, went in and undressed Boris Valabik for a nice goal. Some people question the thrashers for taking valabik so high and I am one of them. Perry played a solid game, making some nice passes that noone could finish.

Perry is usually in the middle of every scrum because he attracts so much attension from the other teams. He lost the fight pretty bad to richards. I think he needs to work on his back hand, a couple times he came down the ice on the RW and when he cut to the middle he could had easily had 2 goals today but he doesn't know how to finish on his backhand, or atleast that is what it looked like today. His one assist was a pretty nice pass.

Impressive effort by both Perry and Getzlaf. Can't wait to have them in Anaheim line-up.

I watched most of the Moncton/CB game last night on Eastlink. Saunders was alright, but not great. He seemed to have trouble controlling the puck at times (receiving a pass). This was especially apparent when he was playing point on the powerplay. However, strangely enough, he was able to get nice one-timers off during the powerplay. It was just stopping the puck and moving it again that gave him fits.
His puckmoving skills also weren't sharp, gave away the puck a few times.
His mobility needed improvement, he seemed to just stand in front of his goalie a few times, good for clearing out traffic in front of the net, but it didn't look great to just see him standing there.
He played a lot of minutes, and is an alternate captain for his team. He gave the big hits and made opponents pay for driving to the net.

Perry's first goal was a sweet move on a partial breakaway. I saw his first two but I didn't watch the third period as it was 7-0. Perry took a knee on knee in the third by Downie, downie got 5 and a game for the hit. Perry was down but came back to score his third goal of the night so he seems to be fine, im sure I will have more details from tomorrow's paper, I didnt see the hit so I can't say how bad it was or anything, but he came back to finish the game which is good news.

Schremp is usually only on the ice with Perry on the powerplay or late in the 3rd and they need a goal but that situation hasn't really come up this year yet. Hunter is his main man as they usually team up on each other's goals, the third spot has been used by many different players, I think Prust (calgary prospect) will stay there. It has been steadman lately, a very defensive forward.

Wrong, Schremp plays on the 2nd line currently. Hunter and Perry play on the 1st line with Foreman or Prust (that has been changing). PP is different, there Schremp gets time with Perry and Hunter.

Agreed if you are considering he was an MVP candidate and he is not in the top 20 for scoring. (he is tied for 23rd in scoring)

To be fair to Ryan he does lead Calgary in scoring with 12 points in 13 games.

His line was supposed to tear up the WHL this year, here are their stats:

Getzlaf 13 games, 6 goals, 6 assists, 12 points, 34 pim, +9.

Perry now has 16 goals and 28 assists in 19 games? Wow, those sure are some awesome numbers. With a player like him, Getzlaf, Chistov, Lupul, Glencross all on the Ducks team, the Ducks have really lucked out, considering only one of the 4 players mentioned above saw consistent ice time with the Ducks. Chistov is one of the best stickhandlers I have ever seen. Lupul has a shot that some have compared to Mike Bossy. Perry is a player that reminds me of a young Jarome Iglina (they said he would fall down a lot when he first got to the NHL), and Getzlaf reminds me of a young Ruchin, with more talent (notice how Getzlaf is captain of his current team? think he can be the Ducks future captain?) And then there is Glencross, who after watching play at the rookie tournament is one of the best, if not the best, checkers I have ever seen play the game). I have also watched the NHL Mighty Ducks play practice at the arena and have seen them play in actual games, and I never saw any one of them throw checks like Glencross. Plus, he can score goals! What better player would the Ducks want? He had 3 more goals then Getzlaf and Perry in the rookie tournament. And even with all of those players, the Ducks still have exciting players like Federov, Ruchin, Sykora, Niedermeyer, Pahlsson, and Leclerc. I might even go so far to say that out of all of the teams in the NHL, the Ducks are the most talented. The shame is, there aren't enough spots for all of them. So, a player like Glencross, one whom the Ducks could really use because of the fact that they would have a player who can throw checks like nobody they have ever had before, won't probably get a spot until a year or two from now. But imagine, with a player like Pahlsson and Glencross on the same line, both of whom are the best checkers the Ducks have, all they need is one more player who can check and is pretty talented and they have the best checking line in the NHL. How about Zenon Konopka?

Fairly decent game, Russia won in a shootout. The team was much improved from the one that they sent last year. Just like last year, their goaltender stole the show (last year it was St. Louis' Barulin, this year it was Minnesota's Anton Kudobin).

As for Saunders, I must say I was impressed. He played in the second pairing, didn't see powerplay time and played on the first penalty kill unit. He seemed to be involved in the play, playing very physical, giving hard hits and shrugging off hits that he received. He was skating more, which was an improvement over the last time I saw him, and although there were a few moments where he did let forwards get behind him, he was able to catch up with them. As the game progressed, he even tried to get involved offensively, and he was on the ice for the crucial last minute in a tied hockey game. Something of interest that I noted is that he seemed to have adapted to the no redline rule easier then some of his teammates. The games are being played using international rules and even during things like the World Juniors and the World Cup, teams from North America always seem to have trouble with the long pass. Not to say that Saunders is international competition ready, but he definitely seemed more comfortable with the long pass and dealing with the long pass coming into his zone.

I may have commented on this in another thread as someone else noticed the same thing. I think the reason for this is that with the no two-line pass the Canadian teams tend to get very concerned about the long pass. As a result one of the d-men always hangs way back. The defensive aspect is Saunder's strength, and intl play allows him to hang back an extra ten feet or so, which gives him more time to get his feet moving when forwards are coming at him as he has a bit longer to read the play.

Perry had two assists tonight for the OHL vs. the touring Russian team. 1st assist he scooped the puck out from the corner and made a great pass to Bolland in the slot for a one timer. 2nd assist he split the defence and recieved a pass from Hunter, Perry took it to the net hard, but sort of lost control of the puck and lunged out to whack the puck on goal. This caused him to collide with the goalie and knock him out of the net, while the puck lay in the slot for an easy Dylan Hunter tap in.

Jordan Smith stood out with a couple good defensive plays and had a couple heavy hits in the game. He also stood out because some schmuck on the Russian team two handed him in the face during the third period. It was an ugly incident, but Smith shook it off.

Article about Perry at the OHL/Russia games and his hopes for making Canada's World Junior Team.

http://www.londonknights.com/default.asp

"Corey Perry went for the gold last night, pulling a gold chain off a Russian player's neck in a skirmish during the Team OHL-Russia Selects game at the Hershey Centre. The OHL scoring leader (19 goals and 57 points) and London Knights right-winger wants to see more of the Russians at the world junior championship in Grand Forks, N.D."

"When asked if he thought last night's effort would make a good impression on Hockey Canada head scout Blair Mackasey, Perry replied: "There's always more you can do. You've just got to show them you can do it. . . . I think I have."

Talking with Matt MacInnis about him (he's in Moncton as well) and he keeps commenting on how well Saunders has been skating and getting involved in the rush and helping out offensively.

Just watched Saunders and the Wildcats beat Halifax 3-2 in overtime.

Saunders impressed me in almost all aspects of his game. He played well defensively, especially along the boards. He also jumped into the offensive play a bit. He was skating very well and he saw time on the point of the powerplay unit as well as penalty kill time. He moved the puck well on the powerplay. The only fault I noticed was that his shot seemed rather weak and unaccurate.

Who is more ready, Nathan Sauders vs. Shane O'brien...

They seem to play the same type of game... both have size 6'4" 215 vs. 6'2" 230... both are mean and ready to drop the gloves.... Obrien has started in the AHL early on and is about one yr older, plus he did well offensively in the minors unlike Saunders....

has anyone seen both of them play to make an analysis of the 2?

If I can weigh in, I have O'Brien ahead of Saunders. I think O'Brien can be a 2nd pairing blueliner, where Saunders is more likely a 3rd pairing kind of guy. O'Brien has the edge in skating and has more offensive potential then Saunders.

Yes, Perry decided to make a little noise in the only game he gets to play in his hometown of Peterborough this season.

Perry was hanging in there pretty good, he was squared off with Ryder for the most part and was tossing some right hands, the camera cut away to the goalie fight right as Perry was getting tackled by a couple of Petes.

He didn't play particularly well tonight, but despite not putting up any point last night, Perry had one heck of a game aginst Belleville. The goalie just had his number, but he was dialed in and had a few unreal dangles and some impressive sequences on the cycle.

Perry's second goal was a sweet shot. He came down on a 2 on 1 , had a lot of speed and wound up for a slap shot, I thought that maybe that wasn't the best idea because he is so good at deaking the goalie but he let it go and couldn't have placed it any better in the top corner. Perry's shot is one area in which I think he has to improve on to score at the pro level. His slapshot is pretty good but his wrister and snap will have to improve imo, to score in the nhl.

Well he had a goal and 3 assists tonight in a 5-1 win over Erie. I didn't catch any of the game (work) but he now needs 7 goals in 7 games to reach 50. I think Perry is probably more interested in becoming the Knights all time point getter. I think he needs around 14-17 points in the final 7 games to reach that mark. Even if he doesn't break the record he has already past former knight greats such as Jason Allison and Dino Cicerelli.

He also could of had easily 4 more points if the puck had gone in. His slap shot continues to get him goals, pretty similar shot to how he scored last game. He made some pretty nice passes (most of his assists were 1st assists). He sent a couple guys on breakaways and set up the D for one timers. Michael Blunden, an Erie player, pushed Perry down, knocked his helmet off, and picked up his stick and threw it over the glass into the crowd, which got him a suspension. The 19-year-old right winger, the runaway OHL scoring leader with 126 points in 57 games, 27 more than runner-up and linemate Dylan Hunter's 99, is just two points from tying Chris Taylor's franchise record of 378 points.

"Just to be put in a category with all those people that have gone through the organization like Jason Allison, Rick Nash, all those kinds of guys, to have a chance to break the record at home in London ... in front of my parents, hopefully we can do it [tonight], but if not, we can do it on Sunday," said Perry.

The star's parents will be in attendance and he knows fans will hope to see history be made, but he is hoping it does not become a distraction to his team.

"I know my teammates, they're all rooting for me to [do it] and they're trying to help me out as much as they can."

I'm staying home tonight to watch the game in hopes that Perry will break the record. He has been on fire lately, whenever he gets the puck you can feel he is about to do something great. The 12-0 game on his first 8-10 shifts he had a point on 7 of them and hit a post.

On a side note Rimouski has been dominating the O, so hopefully they will continue to be hot so I can see Crosby play the Knights at the memorial cup. I was wishing the Hitman would win the W but that doesn't look like it will happen.

Well Perry could of had the points tonight but he didn't get them. He had a couple of scoring chances and he gave Beaulieu an empty net at the start of the game that Josh couldn't finish. Late in the third a penalty shot was awarded to the knights and Perry was on the ice so they sent him to take it (which if he had scored would of tied the record in a great way) but Perry was sent aside by the ref ordering Beaulieu to take the penalty shot because he was the player who was slashed on the breakaway. Perry's goal was pretty nice, he took the puck from the corner to the net shot it, and the rebound jumped into the air where he batted it in. Next game is Sunday at home to Erie.

Congrats to Perry on setting the all-time London Knights points record. In the 40 years of existence in the Knights history no one has accumulated more points than Corey has. His goal was a sweet shot off of a set play from the face-off. It was a one timer and he showed his solid slap shot again. His one-timer is a shot I think he needs improving on as he doesn't always time it right but this one was perfect. The whole team came out to congratulate him and you could see how happy he was. In the intermission they talked about the all-time record which is about 100+ points away but he was saying how he will most likely be in Cincy next year and maybe if the NHL is worked out a chance to play in Anaheim but he said that with caution because he knows he still has a ways to go.

Thanks for the post Jerky. It was a good article and nice to read what Dale Hunter had to say about him. He really has come a long way since his draft year. He just tried to do to much that season I think. On a side note I could of had some tickets to tonights first playoff game against Guelph but couldn't get out of work  . I will be their monday for game 3 though!

"He'll eventually be a top-end player, a top-10 scorer in the National Hockey League," Hunter said. "He definitely has skill, a great stick, can score, can pass, but the key for him is he has no fear. Some people don't like to go in the danger areas, but he goes in and competes in there. You can see it in his eyes. No one is going to stop him from scoring or setting up a goal."

Talk about high expectations... Dale Hunter seems to really like Perry...

HF: What about Saunders?
AP: Again it’s a question mark. It think if we look at Nathan Saunders and try to compare him a little bit to Colin White, who was in the league as a 19-year-old and signed as a 20, I kind of see them in the same light. Colin played I think three years in the American Hockey League as part of his development. It depends on how they see him and how far he is along, and what kind of money they are going to deal with to see these guys. I would say Nathan and Bruce could be 50-50 coming back, but that remains to be seen.

Former knight Ryan Pottruff took a nasty two handed slash on Perry late in the 3rd period and received 5 and a game. With a powerplay the last 5 minutes of the game the knights were able to run the score a little. It took a while for them to figure out the penalties and Perry had time to rest and he came back the next shift and scored his 2nd goal of the game. Apparently the time delay was due to the fact that the linesmen heard the Guelph coach asking his players for "someone to go out and break someone's wrist." I like Schremp's quotes in the first article:

"In my opinion, I think it's pretty classless," Schremp said. "If they want to play that game, we've got three or four of the toughest guys in the league.

"We're beating them on he scoreboard and if they want to get their lunch fed to them, they can start doing that crap, too . . . if it comes to that (tonight), we know how to handle ourselves."

and coach Hunter's quotes in the second article:

The Knights might not be the most physical team in the world, but they won't be intimidated.

After the Storm turned frisky, Hunter sent out Josh Beaulieu, Kelly Thomson and Brandon Prust initially.

"I sent out my three strongest players," said Hunter. "Everything turned quiet after that, right? They didn't want anything to do with that."

:yo: Team toughness!!!

Perry's first goal was a deflection off of a point shot. His second was a nice one timer from the point on the pp. The fight was caused by a harmless play. Perry hit Parent and it was a soft check (didn't deserve the boarding call imo), guelph players come in and go after Perry. He starts punching O'leary and Perry didn't want to drop them imo but he ended up doing so. For the most part he looked like he was just hanging on so he wouldn't get punched but once he got O'leary's helmet off he delivered a solid right knocking O'leary down. The camera went to the knights bench and Schremp and Larmen were laughing and enjoyed the fight! The knights can now rest and will most likely play the winner of the Kitchener/Erie series.

Thanks for the post McDonald19. I find it encouraging to see Smith getting some props from the coaches around the league. I havn't really gotten a chance to see him play this year and it is highly unlikely he will play against the Knights in the playoffs. As for most dangerous in the goal area, no doubt it is Perry and I think that is a reason some people (fans at HF) question weather or not he will be able to produce at the pro level. He scores a lot of his goals in and around the blue paint due to his stickhandling and his critics will say that bigger, stonger D won't let him do what he does. Also of note, former Anaheim prospect Brian Lee was voted 3rd best defensive defenceman. He might be able to land a spot in the AHL next year if the NHL is back or using replacements.

Yeah, I wonder if the Ducks ever considered signing Lee?

He was recently selected in the United Hockey League North American Amateur Draft by Kansas City.

Probably doesn't necessarily mean he will be playing in the UHL next season though.

my whole thinking was that the team wasn't keen on signing anyone around that deadline and that's counting Brent, Lee, Caron etc. Although you can't argue with the state of our blueline at present, because despite losing Lee and Caron and Fritshaw, we gained Foster and Malec, as well as the huge D-man draft of 2004.

Saunders got into a fight today when the score was 3-0 I believe. He won the fight (which set off a string of other fights) but basically Saunders' fight killed the RN spirit. It was the period at the end of the game really, everything afterwards was pretty straight forward.

Honestly, these 2 playoff rounds, Getzlaf has played at a really high level.....he's not taking any shifts off, and he's been a force throughout the whole series. He's showing much more maturity and leadership too........

Everyone on these boards who have seen the Hitman play these playoffs have been echoing these thoughts which is great to hear for us Anaheim fans. Game 7 should be a great game, I'm thinking overtime.

Game 1 - Thursday April 21 at London, 7:00 p.m

It's about time, I have been waiting for this game for over a week. This will be a tough, physical series. Kitchener's D is huge and they play a gritty/dirty game. With both team's preparing for a week and everyone healthy there should be quite a few scrums. If there is a large lead in any game it could get out of hand.

Exactly.

Getzlaf was the most dominant player (non-goaltender) in the WHL playoffs... until the Hitmen got knocked out -of course...

Perry and Richards had a fight (link to a video for those who are interested here: http://hfboards.com/showthread.php?t=140153) as The Knights won game 1 with a score of 3-2.
Perry also had an assist and was -1 on the night.

I'm not not downloading the video ;)

Seems like Perry and Richards don't like eachother.

Saw video of them fighting at the beginning of the season, Richards went out of his way to come and get Perry out of a scrum and fight with him.

I dare all anti-fighting people to check out the video...

Was the deafening sound in the background from people running to the exits because of violent show which could leave permanent mental scars to them and their children or people going absolutely crazy with two teams showing boatloads of emotion and two star players duking it out? You make the call

Well they keep saying they are good friends off the ice. They have been keeping in touch since the world juniors but havn't since the playoffs started.

Richards did a bit of the same this time around, making sure that if Perry was going to get into the scrum then he would have to fight richards. Atleast this time Perry held his own and to some could be given the nod because of the first punch.

Everyone who was still in the stands were on their feet as Perry and Richards made their way to center ice for the bout. It was a great fight to end a solid game and makes you want to watch game 2 just that much more. Kitchener fans will be booing Perry and I suspect he will receive more cheap shots in the Aud than he does at home. I was waiting for a scrap all night and surprised it took 60 minutes for one to take place. I think their will be one off the draw to start game 2 though.
