Don't post your picks, only discussion...
Some very big games early on this season.
MontrealCruiser_83* 09-16-2004, 10:32 AM btw, omg some funny stuff going on this week...
Keyshawn pulls another one. Calls Ronde Barber an uncle Tom lol...
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2004/writers/jeffri_chadiha/09/14/keyshawn/index.html
And Lance Schulters:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
But even when he’s not talking trash, Schulters still has plenty to say about the Tennessee Titans’ chief AFC South rival.
“There’s going to be talking on the field, of course,” Schulters said. “But I don’t have anything to say about those guys. It’s already out there. They know we don’t like them, and I definitely don’t like them. If I get a chance to take all of them out, I’ll definitely hurt all of them. We’re going to play the game on Sunday, and the best team will win.
“I don’t like none of them. I don’t like Peyton [Manning], their running back E.J [Edgerrin James]., none of them, the DB who tried to … who was that guy? Nick, who? We don’t know who that bird is.”
Schulters was referring to cornerback Nick Harper, whose circuitous end zone route last year in the RCA Dome with an interception angered some Titans.
Cuiffitelli 09-16-2004, 10:37 AM The Minnesota at Philadelphia game is going to be off the hook! Mad scoring in this one!!!
Safir* 09-17-2004, 04:43 AM Sunday, Sep. 19
Carolina at Kansas City, 1:00 pm
Green Bays running games killed the Panthers running game the last time and now they fast an even better unit, headed by Holmes. :shakehead
I have the strange feeling that Colbert will make a good start at WR.
Go Panthers.
MontrealCruiser_83* 09-19-2004, 10:59 AM Kick-off baby. :yo:
Hockeyfan02 09-19-2004, 12:02 PM Deuce Mcallister out with a high ankle sprain after a fumble.
Oilers_775 09-19-2004, 12:22 PM Ravens up 10-0 :yo:
chris_dub 09-19-2004, 12:25 PM Anybody know why Williams isn't getting any catches in Detroit??
ATL 17-7 @ Half
:yo:  :yo:
guinness 09-19-2004, 12:31 PM Anybody know why Williams isn't getting any catches in Detroit??
Because the Lions' play calling sucks.
Oilers_775 09-19-2004, 12:35 PM 13-0 Ravens, Heap is hurt though :thumbd: :thumbd:
MontrealCruiser_83* 09-19-2004, 12:54 PM Eddie George who?
21 carries for 125 and a score for Brown.
Danny 09-19-2004, 01:04 PM Bears are up 21-3 in Green Bay. :amazed:
guinness 09-19-2004, 01:05 PM The Lions woke up, threw the ball to Williams, Williams scored. Note to the Lions: throw the ball to Williams more often, he looks like the real deal.
Danny 09-19-2004, 01:18 PM Roethlisberger has replaced Maddox.
Danny 09-19-2004, 01:20 PM ...and Roethlisberger's second pass of his NFL career is intercepted.
Evilo 09-19-2004, 01:36 PM And Big Ben comes back with a 58 yard pass and two plays later his first TD pass!
Evilo 09-19-2004, 01:39 PM Roy Williams makes it two TD receptions for the day. Lions will be up 2-0 tonight!
Jones also has more than 125 yards for Chicago in less than 20 carries. Impressive.
Evilo 09-19-2004, 01:57 PM And now Big Ben throws for another TD! 156 yards and 10/15!
Oilers_775 09-19-2004, 02:11 PM C-Mac :handclap:
Vic Rattlehead 09-19-2004, 02:12 PM Jags win. 2-0!
Steadfast 09-19-2004, 02:16 PM Jags win. 2-0!
:handclap: It wasn't looking good at the end there. Thank you Quentin Griffin!
Teemu 09-19-2004, 02:17 PM Way to go, Bears
Oilers_775 09-19-2004, 02:17 PM Ravens win
klingsor 09-19-2004, 02:20 PM Redskins lose (boy they certainly looked relaxed).
Giants look somewhat like a professional football team.
golfmade 09-19-2004, 02:26 PM Chiefs are 0-2
Dr Love 09-19-2004, 02:30 PM Chiefs are 0-2
Fear not, FOTS will rationalize it, and you'll find out they're actually the best team in the league.
Leopold Stotch 09-19-2004, 02:41 PM Colts go from 4th and goal on their 1 yard line, with the Titans up 10-3, and dominate after stopping that drive, making the final score 31-17. They had a bad first half, but dominated the second half, especially James, who had 100 yards rushing in the second half. Also, that crappy Indy defense forced FOUR turnovers, yes, four, against the Titans(Interception, fumble, two TODs). McNair also throws his first interception against Indy, and ends his 10 game streak(or something like that) without a TD pass. Big win for Indy.
lux_interior 09-19-2004, 03:47 PM Saints pull out a win vs. the 49ers. 1-1.
Hockeyfan02 09-19-2004, 03:53 PM Saints pull out a win vs. the 49ers. 1-1.
49ers and their great pass defense blew that game. I dont know why Hasllet kept trying to run the ball, the 49ers were shutting that down but couldnt stop Horn or Stallworth. Todays just one of many games the 49ers are going to come close yet blow it somehow in the next few rebuilding years. Positive is that Barlow looked really good today and that Dorsey (who was able to not get clobbered on every play like the qbs last week) looked decent. Ugh...today was frustrating. This game and the fact I'm 2-7 in my predictions.
HeHateMeFrisbee 09-19-2004, 03:54 PM Brutal first half between HOU & DET. Thank god for Roy Williams, and his ability to open the game up. Kevin Jones needs moar carries, and our line needs to run block ALOT better.
Dr Love 09-19-2004, 04:05 PM This week's Viking kicker... Billy Cundiff.
FlyersHomer DM03 09-19-2004, 04:27 PM the good news for the packers: mike mckenzie is back
the bad news: so is 03's defense...complete lack of wanting to stop thomas jones.
fortunately, i didnt see the game, sounds like it all turned on the play where ahman fumbled and mike brown ran it back--the packers were going in for a score, but the bears scored.
Javon Walker went over 100 yards, like I said all summer long, he's gonna emerge as a top reciever before long. Complete failure to use Bubba Franks, one catch for nine yards.
usually early in the season with this loss i'd say my traditional line of "(poop) happens"...but the pack needed this win, a game at home vs. the *** bears, heading into a tough game at indy, the packers have some easy games down the road, so hopefully they can rebound.
Fire Sather 09-19-2004, 05:30 PM I's 10-4 so far.
Should be 11-3 though.. why did I pick Buffalo to win..
klingsor 09-19-2004, 05:30 PM Dallas wins as Keyshawn bats down Cleveland's last second desperation pass.
Quite an ugly game to watch.
FSU Seminoles 09-19-2004, 05:42 PM I'm happy to see Simms as Bucs QB now, even though he last drive sucked he still managed to have a good game
Dr Love 09-19-2004, 05:48 PM I'm happy to see Simms as Bucs QB now, even though he last drive sucked he still managed to have a good game
Sacked four times, threw an INT, and lost a fumble. You've got low standards.
Liquidrage* 09-19-2004, 05:52 PM Well at least Oklahoma isn't on the Bucs schedule.
FSU Seminoles 09-19-2004, 05:57 PM Sacked four times, threw an INT, and lost a fumble. You've got low standards.
the o-line is not better with Simms at QB, but it's easy to see that he's got a good arm, he threw a couple of 25 yard passes on the money
FSU Seminoles 09-19-2004, 05:58 PM Well at least Oklahoma isn't on the Bucs schedule.
well, they were in the game against the team that eveybody says is going to go to the super Bowl. If the O-line could do its job that would make it easier for running backs and Simms
Leopold Stotch 09-19-2004, 05:59 PM I wonder where that guy who figured the Titans-Colts game was in the bag for the Titans? He hasn't said a thing since the first half. I wonder what he thinks of the Colts' terrible defense now?
Liquidrage* 09-19-2004, 06:16 PM I wouldn't inflate what people think about Seattle. They were an "in" pick for some people, mostly because their division sucks rather bad. And they have proven nothing and aren't the Patriots by any means.
The the Bucs couldn't do squat against the Seahawks doesn't bode well for the Bucs. Although I'm happy to see Gruden's genious working so well.
Hockeyfan02 09-19-2004, 06:28 PM well, they were in the game against the team that eveybody says is going to go to the super Bowl. If the O-line could do its job that would make it easier for running backs and Simms
The Bucs biggest mistake over the offseason was letting Jones go and signing Garner. Garner isnt a feature back anymore where Jones was getting 100+ games late in the year as the feature back. With the loss of Galloway, Jurevicious, and the holdout of McCardell the Bucs dont have any targets at wr. Tim Brown isnt a #1 anymore and Clayton is only a rookie. I just dont see the Bucs doing much this season. 6-10 or 5-11. Their defense has played pretty well, but their offense sucks. Good to see Simms getting in there though. Hes their QB of the future.
Dr Love 09-19-2004, 06:34 PM The Bucs biggest mistake over the offseason was letting Jones go and signing Garner. Garner isnt a feature back anymore where Jones was getting 100+ games late in the year as the feature back.
Que? Jones had two 100+ yard games last year, one in early November, one in early December, and started 3 games.
go kim johnsson 514 09-19-2004, 06:35 PM Does anyone know why so many rookie receivers are wearing #11? Kellen Winslow was during preseason, and I've seen Larry Fitzgerald and Roy Williams both wear #11, and I saw someone else in one of the hilites wear #11 also.
Ronnie Bass 09-19-2004, 07:13 PM Zach Thomas is one hellva football player.
Ronnie Bass 09-19-2004, 07:21 PM I can't believe that Miami has traded their next year #2 and #3 for Lamar Gordon and A.J. Feeley. :banghead:

Reggie Williams wears #11 as well I believe. The other rookie reciever on the Jags, Wilford, wears #19.
There has to be a reason for it.
Liquidrage* 09-19-2004, 07:26 PM It was a hard google but I found it.
However, under a new rule in place for 2004 receivers are now permitted to wear jersey numbers ranging from 10-19 in addition to the traditional 80-89 numbers. Previously, receivers were only allowed to wear numbers in the teens if all numbers from 80-89 were already taken. The reason for the change was that the increased number of receivers on NFL rosters resulted in a shortage of numbers from 80-89. Fitzgerald, who wore #1 during his record-setting career at the University of Pittsburgh, is not the only NFL receiver wearing #11 in 2004. Including Browns tight end Kellen Winslow, there are a number of other receivers wearing that numeral, such as the following:
So the answer is because they can. They get to stake their own numbers.
Hockeyfan02 09-19-2004, 07:48 PM Que? Jones had two 100+ yard games last year, one in early November, one in early December, and started 3 games.
Well I didnt know his exact stats, but I do remember him being an effective runner whenever he was the featured back last season. I knew it was only a few games down the stretch, but he was doing pretty well. It was better than Pittman...although that isnt saying much.
USC Trojans 09-19-2004, 08:08 PM Man, the offense for both the Bengals and the Dolphins really suck.
FSU Seminoles 09-19-2004, 08:16 PM Man, the offense for both the Bengals and the Dolphins really suck.
I was looking for Palmer to have a great game, but that's not how it's working out right now. Nice to see Webster doing well also
Draft Guru 09-19-2004, 08:32 PM J-E-T-S!
2-0 heading into the bye week.
Then its at Miami, and home to Buffalo and San Francisco.
5-0 is definitely possible, IMO.
Curtis Martin looks like his former self, McCareins adds another option at WR and Chad Pennington is Chad Pennington.
Real test will come in week 7 against NE.
USC Trojans 09-19-2004, 08:38 PM I was looking for Palmer to have a great game, but that's not how it's working out right now. Nice to see Webster doing well also
the good thing about him though, is that his attitude and his college experience makes him a more mature quarterback. You won't see him make too many rookie mistakes.
go kim johnsson 514 09-19-2004, 08:51 PM The Bengals seem to be getting it together on O...but a 29 yard drive is the longest of the night.
Without the INT return it's 6-3...
Fire Sather 09-19-2004, 09:06 PM I dont care if peyton manning gets traded to the Fins to play QB.
He will still look bad with this OL.
go kim johnsson 514 09-19-2004, 09:19 PM here come the dolphins!!!!
go kim johnsson 514 09-19-2004, 09:20 PM wow, what a TD grab by chris chambers
go kim johnsson 514 09-19-2004, 09:47 PM WOOOO!!!!!
Cincy 16 Miami 13 with 2 seconds left
Carson Palmer by far the best drive of the night.
loveshack2 09-19-2004, 10:17 PM The Chargers put up 28pts today :handclap:
I realize it's only the Jets and Texans but maybe their offense isnt going to be so bad this year after all. When your team is this bad you have to find joy in the little things. Ah who am I kidding....
At least Flutie ran in a TD today. Hands up everyone who picked Flutie to score a rushing TD before Michael Vick or Donovan McNabb this year.
:)
Enoch 09-19-2004, 10:17 PM I was looking for Palmer to have a great game, but that's not how it's working out right now. Nice to see Webster doing well also
The Titans didn't get much going in the air against the Dolphins, so I really didn't expect the Bengals too...especially when their run game isn't nearly as good as the Titans.
USC Trojans 09-20-2004, 12:35 AM That was a great last drive by the Bengals, and Palmer was on the target in all of his passes. You can see his confidence building up and that is never a good thing against their opponents. I've seen that way too much back in college...once he starts believing in himself then he'll become a great QB.
In all fairness to Palmer though, the Bengals O line really needs to step it up, and the receivers can't drop as many passes as they did today. All in all, I thought Palmer did an okay job and by midseason he'll be having lots of 250 yds, 2 TD games.
Keith Campbell 09-20-2004, 12:38 AM well my bills blow
well my bills blow
Or at least the OL does. 7 sacks?!
clefty 09-20-2004, 05:01 AM Oh, Tampa  :shakehead
Still too early to draw any meaningful conclusions, but some thoughts through 2 games...
-Jacksonville is proving that it is better to be lucky than good. Of all the 2-0 teams, I think they are the most likely to go 0-14 the rest of the way. Guessing 5 or 6 wins the rest of the way.
-Chief defense blows. Defensive Coordinator is not the problem, a lack of talent is. Unless the Chiefs offense kicks it into overdrive or the defense keeps a RB under 100 yards, they will have a tough time making the play-offs.
-Gibbs is a good coach, but the Redskins self-destruction was ugly to see. For a coach that preaches discipline, that is inexcusable. Hate to face the Redskins next week, because Gibbs is going to work them like dogs during practice.
-Ravens will walk away with that division. How many teams can rack up 30 points when they pass for only 98 yards? That passing game (or lack there-of) will keep them from going anywhere though.
-Rumors of the Rams demise were not greatly exaggerated. The team just looks old now. Bad offensive line and bad defense. When does the Jackson-era begin?
-Welcome to the NFL Joey Harrington. About time you showed up. Easily the best game of his career. If he keeps up this level, Detroit will not be an easy match-up.
-Bears whip the Pack in Lambeau. That is worth repeating, Bears whip the Pack at Lambeau. Is Thomas Jones for real? He has best be, because that passing game still looks dreaful. Don't stick a fork in the Packers yet though.
-Colts redeem themselves at the expense of the Titans defense. Titans looked completely outmatched in the 2nd half. Question is, because of the Colts firepower or because the Titans just are not as good as advertised?
-Bucs are done. Gruden may be a coaching genius, but he has gotten too big for his britches. Too much talent out the door, too many has-beens as patchwork solutions. Kiffen is keeping the defense respectable, but that offense is abysmal top to bottom. Lets see if Gruden uses this as an excuse to bench Johnson.
-A FF Bandwagon to get on early: the Cowboys passing game. Testeverde is an accurate QB, they run 3-deep and have a good line. Parcells is looking to have an air show this year and it is working.
-Buffalo is in for a long year. The line is still as dreadful as ever protecting Bledsoe and Mularkey has a long way to go as a head coach.
-Wasn't Green supposed to be this difference maker in the desert? Reading his post-game comments, it is clear that his enormous ego remains intact. Cards will be contemplating which franchise QB they are going to draft in the top-5.

Mr Brownstone 09-20-2004, 06:29 PM Anyone think Onterrio can score 3 touchdowns (or 2 TD and a 150 yard game) tonight for me to pull out a week 2 fantasy win/tie?
guinness 09-20-2004, 06:35 PM -Welcome to the NFL Joey Harrington. About time you showed up. Easily the best game of his career. If he keeps up this level, Detroit will not be an easy match-up.
He's finally gotten a quality WR (at least one that is healthy or doesn't have butterfingers) and the running game will hopefully come along as well. I'm having nightmares already thinking about McNabb and TO hooking up many times on Sunday, considering how bad the Lions' secondary is (w/o Bly).

Season is not over, Oakland next week, we get this one and we're back. Panthers won't be as good this year, so if the Bucs can win some games in the division it's not over. But that damn O-Line is going to have to do something
by the way, was Jermaine Newberry playing left guard with Andrews in the lineup ?

All Jacksonville has to do is improved their offence. They have a damn good defence. If Leftwich and the running game can pick it up, Jacksonville can be a surprise wildcard. I really want to see the Jaguars back to their old form when they used to be one of the top teams int he AFC.

Defense isn't that great. CBs and DEs are extremly suspect.
Tuggy 09-20-2004, 11:58 PM Defense isn't that great. CBs and DEs are extremly suspect.
Individually perhaps but they play great as a unit. Not sure how many games they are going to win but I don't see them getting blown out very often. They are extremely tough to run against and hopefully Leftwich can continue to improve as the season rolls. They are in a very tough division though so we'll have to wait and see.

They may be tough against the run, but the CBs and DEs still look weak. One sack and no INTs against Plummer and Bledsoe?
I think they have been more lucky than good. We will see how this plays out.
Looking like the Panthers of 2003. Just saying.... :dunno:
Not really. Panthers had an offense that perfectly complemented their defense (which was/is much better than the Jags). Davis controlled the clock, the defense kept the score down and they had a kicker who could get them 3 with confidence.
Jags defense has more holes, their coach is still a work in progress, they have one of the worst kickers in the league and their offense just sputters along.

Fire Sather 09-21-2004, 03:56 PM Jets are going 11-5!
Vikes chances of going someplace this year are falling on the IR.
Kleinsasser is expected to have season ending surgery.
Rosenthal is out for the year with a broken ankle. His replacement Haayer was a traffic cone on Monday night.
Wiggins is out for 2-5 weeks with a broken hand. He was a slow healer in pre-season and training camp, so could be logner.
Bennett is still hurt, not expected to be able to start until after the bye week.
Irvin is done for the year with a torn achilles.
3rd string TE Angelo was placed on IR before the season started. The TEs left are 4th string Dugans (a rookie 7th rounder) and 5th stringer Owens (rookie UDFA and back-up long snapper).
Vikes have a big question mark in the secondary, a gaping hole at RT and unknowns at TE. From a contender to a pretender overnight. Only saving grace is that nobody else in their division is looking too much better. Even if they win the division, barring some unexpected break-out players, they are a play-off speedbump.

Rams demise...i called it!
The Lions lead the NFC north at this point...I said they COULD challenge for a playoff spot (though I didn't have them there)
The Packers are far from done, their schedule gets quite easy after playing at Indy...they play at home vs. the Giants and then vs. Tennessee on monday, and a bunch of other winable games, then again chicago was winable...the bears need to show more to be for real, just two key turnovers (ahman's fumble was a 14 point swing basically)
Colts = good...the titans defense is thinned out ridiculously

I thought the Rams were hurting too. To be fair, I don't think we were going out on much of a limb, I read the same stuff a lot of places. When Turley went down, you knoew trouble was coming. What must be frustrating is that Martz is actually calling a balanced game for the first time in years, but now it is too late.
I think the Lions are paper Lions and will fall to third sooner rather than later. Vikes and Packers are just better teams.
Speaking of the Packers, with the rash of injuries on the Vikes, they should take the division. Vikes looked tough going into the year, but have too many players out or suspended to keep pace. It will take a few more Bear-like breaks for the Vikes to win I think. If the Pack falters, we will be right there though. Both should contend for a WC Berth.
