chris_dub 09-12-2004, 12:33 AM Ya ya, I know there have already been 2 games. First the shootout, back-&-forth Indy/New England game on Thursday. And the microcosm of Miami's season today vs. the Titans.
But for most of us, the season officially gets underway tomorrow. And also for most of us, our Fantasy leagues kick into full gear. I work at 11 in the morning, but have a TV at work so I will be glued to it & the internet to see how my boys start off Week 1.
Now I work Sunday's, so I don't have NFL Sunday Ticket at home...cause it wouldn't mean much. But we do have cable at work, so I can catch 2 games in the morning, 2 in the afternoon & the Sunday nighter at home. Can't wait. I'll most likely get up earlier tomorrow so I can catch a bit of the early games before I head to work.
I don't know about anybody else, but I can't wait!!

big loss, depends on how you see it. He's a rookie, so it's not as if McNabb went down. But he's a hell of a rookie, he would have helped the Westbrook a lot. But since he is not really part of the team in a way it's not as big.
MontrealCruiser_83* 09-12-2004, 03:48 PM Shawn Andrews went down big time, got carted off for Philly. Anybody know if that is a big loss for them?
He was their 1st round pick... Won't be a huge loss since its early in the season.
On the replay, I was expecting to see his leg snap (since the trainers brought the air-cast out right away) but from what I saw I didn't look like the tib-fib fracture that usually ends a players season.
Dr Love 09-12-2004, 03:51 PM Tim Rattay also went down. Andrews is a pretty significant loss if he's out for an extended period of time, the Eagles have very little depth on the o-line.

Hicks performed well. The problem is that after Hicks they don't have anyone good enough. So if Andrews is hurt long term, they can't afford another injury to the line.

MontrealCruiser_83* 09-12-2004, 05:08 PM The Shaun Alexander play looked almost identical to when Buckhalter went down... I hope for the NFL's sake that the outcome isn't the same. Something has to be done about these injuries.

While it's nice to hear his voice again, Pat has clearly lost quite a few steps in his game.
This quasi-debacle is rather humorous (the FG, not Summerall).

I'm not saying that he rode Madden's coattails... Just that Pat sounded the least senile out of the two. He was a great coach and all, but Madden is absolutely brutal. He slurs, makes up words, and doesn't have a clue what to say half the time...

Ronnie Bass 09-12-2004, 09:29 PM And LT over both of them...
Nah, I think I'd still go with the Priest.
Since nobody has mentioned it, I willl chime in...
Vikes offense looks downright frightening. Cowboys (who are admittedly very over-rated on defense) looked downright powerless. They rolled 3 defenders to Moss and still couldn't shut him down. He drew a pair of PI calls in the redzone and caught a TD. With all the coverage pulled back, Culpepper just scooted up the middle for a few easy first downs. Culpepper played the best game of his career.
Vikes defense has one very notable and exposable flaw: a thin secondary. Rushen Jones is a marginal player. One injury, he is in the nickel package. Teams going to a multiple WR package can move the ball. One big change over last year though: stopping the run. The LBs can move sideline to sideline and were doing a great job getting past a strong Dallas line. Claiborne looked particularly impressive dropping back in coverage today, something he is not noted for.
Next week's game in Philly should be a great one!

MontrealCruiser_83* 09-12-2004, 09:44 PM Nah, I think I'd still go with the Priest.
You have to take into account that he's running behind one of the best lines in the game and one of the best blocking fullbacks, Richardson. Add that to an offence that features a quality passing game and you have plenty of tools that LT doesn't have.
LT's line is average, no passing game... and the teams stack the box with 8 guys on a consistant basis.

I agree, JCD. Tomlinson is the best in the league. He has over 4,500 yards in just 3 years with no offense line or WR corps. As long as he is healthy, he will challenge every rushing record in the book. Put him behind some of the best lines in the leagues and he will be at or around 2,000 yards

Irvin done for the year, torn Achilles. Blows big-time.
Barring an unforseen emergence or trade, that puts a huge dent in the Vikes SB hopes. Winfield and Williams are a great starting duo, but we look pitiful beyond them. No way a team can win the Super Bowl without a competent nickel package.
Right now, I am not even sure who is left for Free Agents.
Ross looked half decent with Vikes, but is still nursing an injury and won't be ready for weeks. Plus, he is a headcase a hair's breath away from suspension. Others look bleak. Dale Carter, Otis Smith, Ralph Brown. Ugh. Just pray they don't bring back Eric Kelly... Vikes have a decent pass-rush, but not enough to off-set that coverage.
On the bright side, Rosenthal signed an extension. He isn't great, but it is one less worry for next summer. Claiborne, Hovan, Wiggins and Frerotte are the only other FAs worth noting.

Impossible. Im-freaking-possible. I don't believe it, and I refuse to believe it. Speaking of Stuart... http://www.thebrushback.com/scottbus_full.htm

Stuart Scott doesn't put anything well.
JLand 09-13-2004, 09:34 AM Poking my eyes with a rusty nail would have probably been less painful than watching the Giants' secondary in action yesterday. :banghead:
MontrealCruiser_83* 09-13-2004, 10:08 PM Steve Smith decided to do his best impression of Jason Kendall and the "wobbly ankle" trick... quite disturbing.
:amazed:
He's gonna miss some time for sure...
Smith's out for at least a month with a broken fibula.

Vikes news...
-Kleinsasser is out for a month. Big loss, he was key to the ground game and a solid safety valve for DC (a much-needed item for the blitz-happy Eagles). Rookies Dugan and Lowe will split his time.
-Terrence Shaw and Ralph Brown are being worked out as replacements for Ken Irvin (out for season, torn Achilles).
-Bennett is out for Philly, Smith to start (Smith's suspension appeal hearing is still pending).
-Dorsch is likely to be promoted from the PS to act as a Kick Off specialist.
