Since he was not in the NHL last year, I was wondering if any Hamilton fans can tell me about his play last year. I remember him as very lanky. What are his best assets? Any help is really appreciated.

Cheers.

As a Cleveland fan, I saw Traverse frequently when Cleveland played Hamilton. He's a good veteran presence with an average shot. However, his skating abilities are pretty poor. He has some checking ability, and he is mainly a stay-at-home defenseman. But all in all, he's basically just an AHL body to provide a little bit of veteran presence.

Having seen him a number of times in the NHL and 11 or so in Hamilton last year, Traverse sadly was not very effective in the AHL and much less in the NHL due to his lack of strength and physical play. He does throw a decent hip check and can move the puck well, but he's prone to bad decisions and his lack of strength/physical game causes him many problems. He should be free to sign anywhere next season as long as it's not in Hamilton.

Thanks. Your input is appreciated. I lost track of the guy after he played in Ottawa. He always came across as underwhelming when I saw him.

Btw, he signed with the Stars today. Not quite the signing I had hoped for. :shakehead

He played on the 3rd pairing this year, so if he did it's bogus. Beauchemin was their top defensemen and the guy put on the ice to hold a lead late in the game. He's wasn't bad in Hamilton, the Traverse-Cote pairing did well for the most part, but his lack of any kind of physical strength was exposed on a consistent basis.
