Just heard on radio... J.P. Boily called a press conference and announced that the Nordiks won't be part of the WHA. However, he said the other WHA franchises still think they can start as soon as october.

What a joke, when will it go away so we can just forget about it? QcS 08-27-2004, 10:37 AM this probably signifies the end of the league. The Nordiks seemed like the most serious team of them all, and were the only ones who had everything together and were to be ready for the new season. They probably just decided to cut their losses realizing that the league was gonna fold. Papa Smurf 08-27-2004, 11:11 AM *sigh* :shakehead Patrick 08-27-2004, 11:16 AM 4 teams now? Vic Rattlehead 08-27-2004, 11:19 AM So wait. There is still Halifax, Dallas, Detroit, and Florida? I'm confused. :amazed: Dave is a Killer 08-27-2004, 11:35 AM So wait. LaLaLaprise 08-27-2004, 12:10 PM LOL hmmm i wonder when the whole league will withdrawl. Grandma Shark 08-27-2004, 12:12 PM not even an original 6...  :jump: :yo: :banghead: Papa Smurf 08-27-2004, 12:18 PM So wait. There is still Halifax, Dallas, Detroit, and Florida? I'm confused. :amazed: No, there's still Vancouver. I think a league should atleast have 6 teams. RyanM 08-27-2004, 12:24 PM I'm shocked :lol Verbal Kint* 08-27-2004, 12:43 PM I realize its a stupid question but what happened to the Toros? Could they not get a lease on an arena? I can't find anything about their withdrawl on this board. Vic Rattlehead 08-27-2004, 12:46 PM I realize its a stupid question but what happened to the Toros? Could they not get a lease on an arena? I can't find anything about their withdrawl on this board. Ya, they couldn't get a place to play. Blind Gardien 08-27-2004, 01:25 PM I'm waiting until it's just down to Halifax, Florida, and Vancouver and they have to fold from travel cost projections alone. :dunno: garnetpalmetto 08-27-2004, 01:42 PM Why do people keep mentioning Florida? I thoughtthat the ownership group never got it together and that originally it was only going to be a 5 team league (Dallas, Detroit, Halifax, Vancouver, Quebec) Papa Smurf 08-27-2004, 02:53 PM Why do people keep mentioning Florida? I thoughtthat the ownership group never got it together and that originally it was only going to be a 5 team league (Dallas, Detroit, Halifax, Vancouver, Quebec) Orlando and jacksonville never got their ***** in gear. ArrrMatey 08-27-2004, 03:31 PM The ones organizing this joke of a hockey league never had their ***** in gear to begin with. They werent set on making a competative hockey league but merely a league the NHL could assimilate again and the owners of the WHA walk away with cash. hockey_nut 08-27-2004, 03:43 PM http://www.thefourthperiod.com/wha/news22.html and they expect to start in late november.. with 8 teams... :lol swedish meatball 08-27-2004, 03:49 PM Why does it seem like all "hockey-lovers" on the board seem to want the WHA to fail? Papa Smurf 08-27-2004, 03:54 PM http://www.thefourthperiod.com/wha/news22.html and they expect to start in late november.. with 8 teams... :lol *sigh* I vaugly remember the days when the NHL had 8 Canadian teams. Verbal Kint* 08-27-2004, 03:56 PM Why does it seem like all "hockey-lovers" on the board seem to want the WHA to fail? A) It takes quality players and splits the league. B) It is run horribly Papa Smurf 08-27-2004, 03:56 PM Why does it seem like all "hockey-lovers" on the board seem to want the WHA to fail? We don't necessarily want it too, but we know it will and now it's time to face the facts, and Quebec's withdrawl makes it painfully obvious that this league is gonna be discarded like Cindi Lauper's new album. Toonces 08-27-2004, 07:08 PM Saw this coming... I thought this cherade would last another month though. And meatball, I'm certianly not hoping it fails, I just understand the reality of the situation. JohnnyB11 08-27-2004, 10:13 PM Why does it seem like all "hockey-lovers" on the board seem to want the WHA to fail? I can't imagine any hockey fans wanting the WHA to fail - the fact is that anyone who takes even a glance at the setup (or lack thereof) of the WHA knows that this league will never fly - the concept is there but not the organization. Could see this coming miles away... :joker: Indrid Cold 08-27-2004, 11:19 PM I'm shocked! :snide: The faster the WHA comes and goes, the better. jumptheshark 08-28-2004, 07:09 AM their news is getting funnier AxeBodySpray 08-28-2004, 12:14 PM I really wish it would succeed, me living in Halifax, I dont usually get to see any real high level of hockey, especially now since the Mooseheads are in a slump. Papa Smurf 08-28-2004, 12:22 PM I really wish it would succeed, me living in Halifax, I dont usually get to see any real high level of hockey, especially now since the Mooseheads are in a slump. I understand how you feel. Thats why I thought the WHA should only put teams in bigger cities that dont get pro hockey. Halifax was perfect, but instead of Detroit, put a team in Regina! What about Salt Lake City? Hartford? GorgeousFrankenstein 08-28-2004, 12:23 PM Which team is He Hate Me playing for? Owen 08-28-2004, 01:38 PM Salt Lake City has way too much hype. Nobody cares about anything there, especially not hockey, it's all a DESERT. Rand 08-28-2004, 02:28 PM Why does it seem like all "hockey-lovers" on the board seem to want the WHA to fail? I don't think many actually want it to fail, it's just they feel the WHA has been so ridiculously mis-handled and seem to ignore their own rules so often that they've almost become something of a joke. At this point it seems any hope that they might last is misplaced, so we're left with little but examining their downfall. Douggy 08-28-2004, 02:35 PM What about Hamilton? ALF AmericanLionsFan 08-28-2004, 04:50 PM :shakehead I was hoping to see it at least get off the ground. Looks like it's over now. Licentia 08-28-2004, 05:14 PM What about Hamilton? I just can't understand this. How can these people be screwing things up like this? How hard can it be???????????????? Sign a rink deal, hire some management/employees, and sign some players. Let's go guys! Idiots, Idiots, Idiots!!! salostyle 08-28-2004, 05:22 PM Next... :lol Licentia 08-28-2004, 10:31 PM Next... :lol It's not even funny. It's to the point of being pathetic. What can they possibly be doing? How can they fill an 8 hour day without doing anything? Do they just sit at a desk and twiddle their thumbs? As if ex-NHL, now AHL types wouldn't jump at the opportunity to play in the WHA. Doug Gilmour would play. Sign them!!!!!! Papa Smurf 08-29-2004, 12:37 AM It's not even funny. It's to the point of being pathetic. What can they possibly be doing? How can they fill an 8 hour day without doing anything? Do they just sit at a desk and twiddle their thumbs? No that would be the CBA talks. Toonces 08-29-2004, 09:22 AM No that would be the CBA talks. Sad, but true... :banghead: GorgeousFrankenstein 08-29-2004, 11:44 AM Quebec is still holding out for an NHL team just like Winnipeg. :lol Midnight Meat Train 08-30-2004, 04:01 AM Quebec is still holding out for an NHL team just like Winnipeg. :lol laugh it up, you'll see in 25 years when the WHA is ranked as the greatest flop by ESPN on their 50th anniversary Papa Smurf 08-30-2004, 10:44 AM It's funny though, how the WHA totally hyped up the "return" of the Nordiks by presenting their logo, draftees, etc. And now look. Timmy1973 08-30-2004, 11:19 AM Orlando and jacksonville never got their ***** in gear. There ***** were in gear to begin with, at least for a little while I thought, but they were supposed to be bought by a Calgary businessman who couldn't come up with the money. With so many of the teams failing before an actual game is played makes me wonder if the league ever had a plan that could succeed. ObeySteve 08-30-2004, 04:17 PM See what happens when you ignore the city of Philadelphia like this? :joker: Rand 08-31-2004, 09:55 PM See what happens when you ignore the city of Philadelphia like this? :joker: You know you've got problems when not even the WHA want's you :) Dr Love 09-01-2004, 09:40 AM You know you've got problems when not even the WHA want's you :) It's not that the WHA doesn't want Philly. It's that like many other NHL cities, they wouldn't have a place to play. PEli* 09-03-2004, 11:47 PM I really wish it would succeed, me living in Halifax, I dont usually get to see any real high level of hockey, especially now since the Mooseheads are in a slump. Go to Mooseheads games this year. They're going to contend for the top spot in the Q. It'll be the best hockey you've seen since...the big run two years ago. | ||
