I think think the highest contract of a Stanley Cup winning team is 9.5 AAV for the Lightning.
The question I have is ..... to afford a higher AAV salary for a player .... did the Lightning have some "high value" contracts ?

And ... does a collection of high value contracts up and down the lineup predict success ?
or ... if you define a "core" group of players, does the overall value of the contracts predict playoff success ?

I think the GAR for players is available at evolving hockey (here).
I also think the AAV of each player is available over at capfriendly.com

Can an SQL / Excel guru mash up these stats to create an estimation of contract value ?

The measure would be: GAR/AAV

What I am wondering is does a team's average contract value predict playoff success ?
