Dan Dunleavy knows the pain of cancer too well. Growing up in a family of four, he was the only one to avoid the disease. He watched his parents and sister battle it, aware they needed help.
In 2019, he was in a position to assist. The Sabres announcer joined co-worker Martin Biron in shaving their heads on air to benefit Bald for Bucks, a cancer-fighting organization founded in Buffalo. The duo is set for a fourth annual buzz during Wednesday’s broadcast.
This one will be different. Dunleavy’s wife, Brenda, was diagnosed with a rare, aggressive form of colon cancer in September. They decided to fight signet ring cell carcinoma publicly — and together. The announcer talked Tuesday about the struggles and highlights heading into Bald for Bucks night.
